This year we are hosting Christmas day at our house, which is a Hong Kong first for us, come to think of it I don’t recall ever having Christmas Day at home, since we left Australia twelve years ago!
With the menu planned, and quite possibly the BEST ever looking dessert decided (photos to come on the day) I was advised by a friend with years of Christmas day hosting experience, to get going with the preparations NOW. So that’s what we did yesterday. We make Jamie Oliver’s ‘get ahead gravy’, and his spiced pomegranate gin. Nigella Lawsons redder than red cranberry sauce, and a Turkish brittle, which is quite possibly the easiest thing to make, is highly addictive and a great gift.
Jamie’s ‘get ahead gravy’, I had not heard of this before, I’m not sure how that’s even possible because it’s the best! and such a great thing to have done and ready to go on the day. You can find the recipe here.
Spiced pomegranate gin, the alcoholic pop you get when you eat the seeds is pure joy! recipe here
Nigella Lawson’s redder than red cranberry sauce, in her book ‘Feast’ she says ‘There is always something ludicrous about the cartoon crimson of cranberries’. I love how she describes food! recipe here
And Turkish brittle, a friend told me about this a few years ago, and it has since become a Christmas gift of choice in our family. Due to the fact it’s impossible to stop eating, I find it best to save it for this time of the indulgent year.
The recipe is below!

PS One of my advent calendar gifts was a new camera lens, for use on close up shots. LOVING it.
